Listening to Napster in the Background on iOS
Napster supports background audio on iPhone and iPad, so your music keeps playing when you switch apps, lock your screen, or use other features.
How Background Playback Works
Once you start a track, Napster continues playing when you:
- Press the Home button or swipe up to go to another app
- Lock your screen with the side button
- Use other apps simultaneously
Controlling Playback from the Lock Screen
iOS displays media controls on the Lock Screen when Napster is active. You can:
- Play and pause the current track
- Skip to the next or previous track
- See the song title, artist, and album artwork
Controlling Playback from the Control Centre
Swipe down from the top-right corner (iPhone X and later) or up from the bottom (older iPhones) to open Control Centre. The Now Playing widget shows current playback controls.
AirPlay and External Speakers
While Napster is playing, you can stream to AirPlay-compatible speakers or Apple TV:
- Open the Now Playing screen in Napster.
- Tap the AirPlay icon (a triangle with circles).
- Select your AirPlay device from the list.
Troubleshooting Background Playback
- Low Power Mode: iOS may restrict background activity in Low Power Mode. Disable it in Settings > Battery.
- Background App Refresh: Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and ensure Napster is enabled.
- Restart the app: Close Napster fully by swiping it away in the App Switcher, then reopen and start playback.
