The Napster Learn Knowledge Base is where you upload the expert content that powers your AI companions and Digital Twins. This article covers supported file formats, size limits, and what to do if an upload fails.
Supported file formats
The following formats are supported for Knowledge Base uploads:
- PDF (.pdf)
- PowerPoint (.pptx)
Other file types - including Word documents, plain text files, and video files - are not currently supported for direct upload.
What about video content?
Video files (.mp4 and other video formats) cannot be uploaded directly to the Knowledge Base at this time. If you have recorded lectures, training sessions, or instructional videos, the recommended approach is to upload the video transcript as a PDF instead. The AI companion will use the transcript as its knowledge source and can answer learner questions based on that content. Direct video file upload is on the product roadmap.
File size limit
The maximum supported file size is 50MB per file. Files larger than 50MB will not upload. If your file exceeds this limit, split it into smaller sections before uploading.
Best practices for uploads
- Use clearly structured documents - well-organised PDFs and presentations produce better AI companion responses than unstructured or heavily formatted files.
- If your PDF was generated from a video transcript, clean up any timestamps or speaker labels before uploading for cleaner results.
- Split large documents into logical topic sections rather than uploading one very large file.
Upload failed - what should I do?
- Check that your file is PDF or PPTX format and under 50MB.
- Try refreshing the page and uploading again - session timeouts can occasionally cause upload failures.
- If the issue persists, submit a support ticket with the file name, file size, and the organisation and course where you are trying to upload.
